A guide to gluten free dining in the greater Boston area for all people with Celiac, gluten intolerance, and/or wheat/gluten allergies.

Welcome local gluten-free people! This is a tried and true guide to gluten-free dining in the greater Boston area. I am a food connoisseur; my diagnosis has not stopped me! So check these out for some great eats next time you're in the area.

Restaurants

The Chateau (multiple locations)

195 School Street

Waltham, MA

Pre-diagnosis, I used to eat here about once a week! It's a family owned Italian restaurant, that has recently implemented a nice gluten free menu. At first they only offered chicken/fish dishes. But they listened to their customers' demands and added such items as chicken parm with GF pasta! This is the best dish on there, because you get to order a classic Italian-American favorite complete with the unmistakable, trademark tomato sauce. Family friendly, reasonably priced restaurant--definitely worth checking out! (Other locations include: Stoughton, Norton, Norwood, Andover, Westboro, Braintree)

The Wayside Inn

72 Wayside Inn Road

Sudbury, MA

If you're a gluten free person seeking a bit of New-England country fare in an old-world style inn, the Wayside Inn has got you covered. They have a printed gluten free menu, and the kitchen staff was knowledgable about the status of the evening side dishes.

Stone Hearth Pizza (multiple locations)

57 Leonard Street

Belmont, MA

Mark my words: no pizza--and I mean NO pizza--comes close to Stone Hearth's gluten free pizza. It's absolutely amazing, and lacks that chalky, rice-y taste that almost all gluten-free pizzas have. They offer gluten-free pasta dishes (may I recommend the GF pasta and vodka sauce), salads, and alcoholic beverages. This place is just amazing. (Other locations include: Cambridge and Needham)

Joe's Bar and Grill (multiple locations)

250 Granite Street

Braintree, MA

This place has an awesome gluten free menu, and works with a scratch kitchen; this means that you can substitute, reduce, and create as you wish. They offer gluten free pasta, pizza, and breads to replace for most of the meals. Great experience! (Other locations include: Woburn, Boston, Dedham, Framingham, Franklin, Hanover, Peabody)

Sea Dog Brew Pub

230 Mishawum Road

Woburn, MA

Though it's not openly advertised online (but they should!) the Sea Dog Brew Pub has a gluten free menu. Great place to go for lunch, or a casual dinner. They have gluten free pasta, as well as bread to replace on the sandwiches.

Papa Razzi (multiple locations)

768 Elm Street

Concord, MA

Owned by the same restaurant group as Joe's Bar and Grill, Papa Razzi offers gluten free pizza and pasta to accommodate their guests. They too work with a scratch kitchen, and will comply with your requests. (Other locations include: Burlington, Framingham, Hanover, Wellesley)

Tavolino (multiple locations)

275 Patriot Place

Foxboro, MA

Tavolino offers a separate gluten free menu (yes, they have gluten free pasta). However, the BEST thing about this place, is they have gluten free pesto chicken wings! The place is a little pricey, but you have to go just to treat yourself to these! (Other location: Westboro, MA)

Outback Steakhouse (multiple locations)

227 Turnpike Road

Westboro, MA

Very clear gluten-free menu. In addition to listing their foods that are naturally gluten-free, they explain under some of the headings how a meal could be modified to be gluten-free. If you are looking for a delicious steak, salad, and sides you have found your place. (Other locations: too many to count!! Google it, hehe.)

Did you know you don't have to go the 'burbs for GF dining? You also don't have to dine at a chain restaurant.

In downtown Boston there are many options for GF dining. Nebo in the North End has an entire GF menu separate from their regular menu. Turner Fisheries has many GF options and sustainable seafood, to boot. Om restaurant in Harvard Square has many GF options on the lunch menu and about 80% of their dinner menu is also GF.

The city of Boston and surrounding neighborhoods are coming in a later article! Nebo will be number one on my list--they're great! Thanks for your comment!
